Report flags / pay stub
NUMBERS“Year-to-date net pay doesn't add up”
What this flag on a pay stub means, why it matters, and what to check.
What it means
Year-to-date gross pay minus the year-to-date total of every deduction doesn't equal the year-to-date net pay on the stub.
Why it matters
Payroll keeps the year-to-date column with the same arithmetic as the current one. Edits often change one total and leave the others behind.
Ordinary explanations
- A deduction line whose year-to-date total is cut off or unreadable.
- A mid-year payroll provider change that restarted some totals.
What to check
Ask the employer to confirm year-to-date gross and net pay. Use the phone number on the employer's official website, not the one printed on the stub.
A flag is a reason to verify with the source, not proof. Apply the same steps to every applicant.
