CROSS-CHECK“Net pay never arrives in the bank account”
What this flag on a set of documents means, why it matters, and what to check.
What it means
No deposit of the stub's net pay appears in the bank statement within a few days of the pay date.
Why it matters
If the stub is real and paid by direct deposit, the money shows up. When a stub is inflated, the real deposit is smaller than the stub says.
Ordinary explanations
- Pay split between two accounts.
- Payment by paper check or pay card.
- A statement from a different account than the one payroll pays into.
What to check
Ask the applicant for the statement downloaded directly from the bank's website or app, and confirm the deposit amount there.
A flag is a reason to verify with the source, not proof. Apply the same steps to every applicant.
