StubSure

StubSure analyzes documents for internal inconsistencies. It is not a consumer reporting agency, and its reports are not consumer reports under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Reports describe documents, not people, and must not be the sole basis for a housing decision. Apply the same screening criteria to every applicant in line with the Fair Housing Act.

CROSS-CHECK

“Gap or overlap between statements”

What this flag on a set of documents means, why it matters, and what to check.

What it means

Statements for the same account skip days between them or cover the same days twice.

Why it matters

Consecutive months should follow one another. On its own it's a note: you may only be missing a month.

Ordinary explanations

  • The applicant sent non-consecutive months.
  • A bank that cuts statements mid-month.

What to check

Ask the applicant for the missing or overlapping statement, downloaded directly from the bank.

A flag is a reason to verify with the source, not proof. Apply the same steps to every applicant.
