StubSure

StubSure analyzes documents for internal inconsistencies. It is not a consumer reporting agency, and its reports are not consumer reports under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Reports describe documents, not people, and must not be the sole basis for a housing decision. Apply the same screening criteria to every applicant in line with the Fair Housing Act.

NUMBERS

“Hours times rate doesn't match the amount”

What this flag on a pay stub means, why it matters, and what to check.

What it means

On at least one earnings line, the hours multiplied by the pay rate don't equal the amount printed on that line.

Why it matters

Payroll computes each line from its hours and rate. Editing the hours, the rate or the amount by hand breaks the multiplication.

Ordinary explanations

  • A rate shown rounded to fewer decimal places than payroll used.
  • A retro pay or adjustment line printed with hours that don't apply to it.

What to check

Ask the employer to confirm the hours and pay rate for this paycheck. Use the phone number on the employer's official website, not the one printed on the stub.

A flag is a reason to verify with the source, not proof. Apply the same steps to every applicant.
