StubSure analyzes documents for internal inconsistencies. It is not a consumer reporting agency, and its reports are not consumer reports under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Reports describe documents, not people, and must not be the sole basis for a housing decision. Apply the same screening criteria to every applicant in line with the Fair Housing Act.

“Earnings lines don't add up to gross pay”

What this flag on a pay stub means, why it matters, and what to check.

What it means

The earnings lines (regular, overtime, bonus and so on) don't add up to the gross pay on the stub.

Why it matters

Gross pay is the sum of the earnings lines. Raising the gross or one line without the others leaves them out of step.

Ordinary explanations

  • An earnings line cut off or unreadable in the copy you received.

What to check

Ask the employer to confirm the gross pay for this paycheck. Use the phone number on the employer's official website, not the one printed on the stub.

A flag is a reason to verify with the source, not proof. Apply the same steps to every applicant.
