Report flags / pay stub
NUMBERS“Year-to-date total is smaller than this period”
What this flag on a pay stub means, why it matters, and what to check.
What it means
A year-to-date amount is smaller than the same amount for the current pay period alone.
Why it matters
Year-to-date includes the current period, so it can't be lower. It's a common trace of editing the current column only.
Ordinary explanations
- None in normal payroll output.
What to check
Ask the employer to confirm year-to-date earnings. Use the phone number on the employer's official website, not the one printed on the stub.
A flag is a reason to verify with the source, not proof. Apply the same steps to every applicant.
